Tempest 2 - Heater Core

The Heater Core replaces the roughly fifty loose balls in the Tempest 2 cap with a two-piece titanium insert that weighs just 3 g. Drop it in and lock the retaining screen into place. That is the whole setup - no counting, no chasing a ball across the floor.

Owners like the Heater Core for its predictability: titanium heats and cools at a steady rate and passes that heat evenly into the herbs, so draws stay consistent and the spent herbs show a uniform roast. Compared with a full ball fill, airflow opens up slightly, the core holds its heat a touch longer, and the taste stays neutral.

Cleaning is where the core really pays off. Instead of picking dozens of balls off a screen, you lift the core out in two pieces and soak and wipe them in one go.

Fitting is simple: the wider opening of the larger piece should face the cap's indicator end. The smaller piece can go either way. Ball sets still have their place for tuning how the heat behaves. The core trades that flexibility for consistency and convenience, so many owners keep both.
