Who is the Smono 3 (USB-C) for?

The Smono 3 is the pure convection classic from Smono, a German brand based in Aachen. It suits anyone who wants clean convection flavour in a body that slips into a jeans pocket, and it is widely praised as one of the best-value convection portables.

The chamber holds up to 0.2 g, and the easy airflow works through it quickly. The small chamber is the trade-off that makes the pocket size and the even convection heat possible. Smono still supplies glass and screens for it today, so it stays a sensible travel and festival companion.

Pocket Size With a Solid Feel

The Smono 3 measures 50 × 27 × 81 mm and weighs about 136 g. It sits fully inside the palm of your hand and slides into a jeans pocket or a small bag without a bulge.

The body has a soft-touch rubberised surface that feels grippy and stays clean. It is dense for its size, which gives it a solid feel in the hand.

The outside stays cool through a whole session, so you can hold it comfortably from the first draw to the last. A small OLED screen shows the battery level, the set temperature, the live temperature and the session timer.

Convection Heat, No Contact With the Herbs

The Smono 3 uses a closed convection system. The heater warms the air first, and that hot air then travels through the load, the way a warm wind moves through washing on a line. Nothing in the chamber touches the hot metal.

That shows up in the taste: no scorching and no harsh roasted aftertaste, just a clean, aromatic character. The air path is also sealed off from the electronics. Convection heating in a body this small is rarely found at this price.

Airflow With Almost No Resistance

Drawing on the Smono 3 takes very little effort. The air path is wide and open, so an easy, gentle draw is enough.

The path is fully airtight, and covering the inlet on the bottom stops airflow completely. That free-flowing air also works through the small chamber quickly, so expect to reload sooner than you might think.

Cool, Clean Draws From the Glass Mouthpiece

The mouthpiece is food-grade Pyrex glass with a silicone seal and a stainless steel screen. Inside it sits an open, cube-shaped chamber.

Vapour swirls and tumbles in that open space before it reaches your lips, shedding heat along the way. The vapour reaches your lips cooler than you would expect from such a short air path.

Glass keeps the flavour clean, and there is no plastic taste at any setting.

Temperature Control, Degree by Degree

The plus and minus buttons move the temperature one degree at a time, with stepless control from 170°C to 221°C. There are no fixed presets, so you can land exactly where you like.

The Smono 3 remembers your last setting and starts at that temperature the next time you switch it on. Heat-up takes about 25 to 30 seconds, roughly the time it takes to grind a load.

Around 190°C gives the best balance of flavour. Settings between 200°C and 221°C extract more from the same load in fewer draws.

Three Buttons and a Clear Display

Three buttons handle everything: power in the middle, plus and minus for temperature. There are no menus to work through, which makes the Smono 3 an approachable choice for a first vaporizer.

An LED glows red while heating and turns green when ready, and the countdown timer starts at the same moment. There is no vibration alert, so the LED and the display are the signals to watch. In bright sunlight the LED is hard to see, so the OLED display is easier to read.

A Wide Chamber That Heats Evenly

The metal chamber holds up to 0.2 g of ground herbs and is wide for a vaporizer this small. The wide shape spreads hot air across the load, so heat does not stack at the bottom.

Filling the chamber about halfway works better than packing it full. Remove the glass mouthpiece to reach the chamber. The fit is snug, so tilt the glass off sideways.

A quartz glass capsule for waxes and oils is included in the box. You fill it, drop it into the chamber and press the mouthpiece back on.

The chamber also takes small dosing capsules that press into place, with no screw threads that resin can clog. You can add dosing capsules to pre-load sessions at home, and an optional pocket scale makes a repeatable 0.2 g fill easy.

How to Use the Smono 3

Everything happens on the three buttons and the display, so a session runs like this.

  1. Loading: Grind your herbs medium-fine, tilt the glass mouthpiece off and fill the chamber about halfway, up to 0.2 g. For waxes or oils, fill the quartz glass capsule and drop it in.
  2. Powering on: Press the main button five times within two seconds. The display lights up with battery level, set temperature and live temperature.
  3. Setting the temperature: Use plus and minus to dial in your target degree by degree. Holding power and minus together for two seconds switches between °C and °F.
  4. Heating: Wait about 25 to 30 seconds. The LED turns from red to green at your target and the four-minute countdown begins.
  5. Inhaling: Take slow, steady draws. Keep the bottom face clear, as the air inlet sits there next to the charging port.
  6. Finishing: The Smono 3 shuts off on its own when the countdown ends. The timer cannot be extended, so five more clicks starts a new cycle; raising the temperature by 5°C to 10°C helps the second round. Tip out the used herbs while the chamber is still warm.

Battery and Charging Over USB-C

Smono rates the built-in 1,600 mAh battery at 30 to 40 minutes of use, which works out at roughly six to eight sessions of about four minutes. Higher temperatures shorten that. The battery is sealed, so it is not swappable.

Charging runs over USB-C from the port on the bottom, and a full charge takes under two hours. The same cable that charges your phone charges the Smono 3, so a power bank covers a long day away from a socket.

The box includes a USB-C cable but no wall adapter. You can add the fast charger to fill that gap, and a magnetic adapter takes the strain off the port.

Cleaning and Care

Brush the chamber out while it is still warm and tip the used herbs away. The box includes a brush, tweezers and a filling tool for exactly this.

The glass mouthpiece and its metal screen can be cleaned thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol. The lower plastic part should only be dipped briefly in cleaning solution, then wiped dry.

Screens darken with resin over time, and drawing air through them takes more effort. A spare mouthpiece lets you use one while the other soaks, and the Wear & Tear Set restocks screens and concentrate capsules. Both are sold separately.

Smono 3 vs Smono 4

The Smono 4 is the mid model in Smono's range, a larger-bodied portable built for longer days between charges. Of the two, it has the larger battery and the wider temperature range.

The Smono 3 is the model in the Smono range that heats by convection, with hot air passing through the herbs and a Pyrex glass mouthpiece that cools each draw. Its range of 170°C to 221°C is stepless, degree by degree, and the body genuinely disappears into a pocket.

The Smono 4 is better if you need longer runtime. The Smono 3 is better for flavour and for carrying in a pocket.

Smono 3 vs Boundless CFC 2.0

The Boundless CFC 2.0 is a well-known entry-level portable from the US brand Boundless, sitting in the same budget bracket. Its main advantage is the bigger herb chamber, so one fill lasts longer.

In return, the Smono 3 offers convection heat and a glass vapour path. Herbs never sit against a hot surface here, and the wide 0.2 g chamber spreads heat across the load. The CFC 2.0 heats by conduction, with the material resting on the hot wall.

Choose the CFC 2.0 for longer sessions from a single fill. Choose the Smono 3 for clean flavour, a cool glass mouthpiece and an effortless draw.

Recommended Accessories

Right now we offer a 25% discount on all accessories when you buy any vaporizer here at MagicVaporizers. Here is a short guide to what pairs well with the Smono 3.

MV StashBox + 8 Accessories: A lockable canvas bag that carries the vape and your herbs, and it includes a grinder, which is not supplied with the vaporizer.

Dosing Capsules (5-pack): Fill five at home and swap loads on a walk or at a festival without carrying herbs and a grinder.

Pocket Scale - 100 × 0,01 g: With a 0.2 g chamber, weighing to 0.01 g means you no longer have to guess when you fill the chamber halfway or fill a capsule.

TightVac MiniVac: An airtight pocket container that keeps herbs fresh and odours sealed, and it is ideal for storing already-vaped herb between sessions.

TightVac Debowler: Tap the chamber out into it after a session, so the used herb goes straight into storage with no mess.

Magnetic USB-C Adapter: The plug stays in the port and the cable snaps on, which protects the port from daily plugging and accidental yanks.

Mouthpiece: Glass is the one fragile part, so a second one means you can carry on while the first soaks.

Wear & Tear Set: Five screens and two concentrate capsules in one go, which renews the parts that wear out with regular use.
